Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick M402

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick M402 is a matte brick red colour with warm brown undertones. Even though it is matte, it has creamy formula and doesn't feel uncomfortable. It would suit every complexion.

Isn’t it overwhelming when companies come up with so many new colours with every release? Urban Decay released 120 vice lipstick shades, Smashbox did the same with their be legendary lipsticks. When there are so many options, making a decision is not easy. Luckily Make Up For Ever only released 45 colour, 31 cream finishes and 14 matte Artist Rouge lipsticks, so it is not that hard.

Do you think is it worth to come up with that many different colours? To be honest, I find it a little bit extreme. So many shades mean spending a long time on makeup counters… When you don’t have anything planned, being on makeup counters means getting products that you don’t think about getting. This is how it happened with this Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge lipstick. It was an intense buy, luckily it wasn’t a bad decision!

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick M402 is from a matte range, which I wouldn’t say 100% matte, more like semi matte. It is not smudge prof. M402 is a brick red. It’s a bold colour with the perfect balance of red and warm brown undertones. If you love your reds, then you might want to check this out. It is not a colour I’d usually go for, however, sometimes it is good to step out of the comfort zone and try new things.

It is highly pigmented so with only one swipe you get the right amount of colour on your lips. Of course you can always over do it. It has creamy smooth formula and it doesn’t feel drying on lips, but it gets a little drier during the day. Formula is softer than MAC Retro Matte lipstick and at the end of the day you don’t need to worry about having dry lips.

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick M402

I tend to consume good amount of hot drinks and also I keep biting my lips, which mean most of the lipsticks don’t last long. Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge lipstick lasts around 4 hours and some stain left behind so it doesn’t completely wear off. If you don’t do any of these things then, I am sure you can wear it over 6 hours. Lucky you…

Black sleek packaging is beautiful. It is simple, even a simple packaging can look good as you can see with this one. I still prefer the shiny gold packaging though. It has a really light floral scent, which is hardly noticeable.

There are a few other colours I want to try, I wonder if the cream ones are as good as matte ones in terms of colour pay off and long lasting.

Which lipsticks have you been enjoying lately? Have you tried any Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipsticks? Which new releases are you up to try out?

    • I really like the formula of it and the pigmentation is insane 🙂

Pet peeve is when I’m going to a make-up counter to get one thing but I can’t because there are 12029 people just standing and swatching loads of things haha. I mean I’m guilty of it but it’s annoying! This colour actually seems really pretty and something I’d wear a lot!

    • It took me over 10 minutes to decide on one colour out of 14 so I don’t want to imagine how long it would take with over 100 colours! I really like the colour, it is just beautiful!

  • Ooh this looks gorgeous! Love the colour. Gemma x

  • I love how pointy the tip of the bullet is! I’ve never tried any Makeup Forever but I have a few of the new UD Vice lipsticks and I have my eye on a Smashbox one too!

    • I couldn’t decide which colours to pick from UD, that’y why I went for the easy option 🙂

  • I’ve been hearing really great things about these new lipsticks and like you said with fewer shades available theres less to worry about when it comes to choices. Love the shade you picked out, it’s just stunning x

    • I really like the formula of is, it doesn’t feel drying at all. Colour range is not as extensive as others so it is much easier to pick one colour 🙂 x

  • I haven’t tried any of the MUFE range in general, but I agree on the many lipstick shades: I just can´t try 120 shades, so I usually don’t bother trying to pick one.

Linda, Libra, Loca: Beauty, Baby and Backpacking

    • I wanted to try UD ones, however, picking out of over 100 colours wasn’t easy so I opted for the easier option.

  • I am so tempted by these MUFE lipsticks, you picked a gorgeous shade! Currently I’m loving Urban Decay lipsticks, they have amazing formula! x

    Mummy’s Beauty Corner

    • I just couldn’t decide which colour to pick from UD, that’s why I opted for MUFE one and I am happy with the colour I picked 🙂 x

  • Like you, I don’t think it’s the best idea to release more than a hundred shades of lipstick at the same time… I personally feel a little lost with all these shades, and especially with the Urban Decay vice lipsticks – with all the different finishes, Matte, Mega Matte, Cream and so on… I like things to be clear haha. I’ve never tried Make Up For Ever lipsticks, but I’m not surprised this one is good. The shade is gorgeous, and I think the fact that it’s matte has a lot to do with how long it lasts, although I’m pretty sure the cream lipsticks must stay on quite well too 🙂

    • Companies just like to confuse us and make us buy more than what we need 🙂 It is the first MUFE hippie I’ve tried and I am happy with the formula and the colour I picked 🙂 Most of the lipsticks don’t last long on me so even 3-4 hours is pretty impressive. I am sure with the colder weather, creamy hippies would last for a long time too 🙂 x

  • Thank you for saying it out loud..the main reason why I didn’t pick up any of Smashbox and Urban Decay lipsticks is the release of 100 plus lipsticks is overwhelming and frankly a huge turn off. I love when a collection is smaller, it doesn’t feel like I have to spend 2 hours trying to find the right lipstick.

    Shireen | Reflection of Sanity

    • I wanted to try UD ones, however, I just couldn’t decide on colours that’s why I ended up picking MUFE one. Seriously the companies like to mess up our heads 🙂

  • Katie

If I see these in store I’ll swatch them but I find it hard to order lipsticks online, especially when there are so many to choose from!

    http://www.beautyfromkatie.blogspot.com

    • I don’t like ordering makeup products online without trying. I love the formula and the colour, you should check it out.

  • Hi ella, I saw the other day at the Makeup Forever counter they released this huge collection, I can’t imagine being 120 of them! I guess it is a bit to much for the average consumer but for makeup artists it must be a dream! I didnt go have swatches because I knew I would be standing for a long time at the counter and have – at the moment, enough lipsticks 😀
l like this type of brick reds, especially for autumn! Maybe I should go have some swatches eventually 😉

Have a great rest of the week!

    • Hi Josune,

I hope you are doing good. Seriously all these makeup companies like to mess up with us and bring up so many colours. How could you pick one or a few colours from over 100 colours? It is just crazy 🙂
I am sure this colour would suit your skin tone and would look gorgeous on you, you should definitely check it out.
      Have a great week! x

  • I found the same with this lipstick, it’s quite smooth, lasts for a long time and offers SUPER pigmented coverage. I haven’t dared wear my red out of the house yet but once the temperature dips here and I get to cozy up in winter clothing I fully intend on adding a touch of red glam!

    • I am not a red person, however, I am trying to leave my comfort zone. I only have two reds and there are so many others I want to try. Reds and berries are perfect for the colder seasons, I am gonna try to be more colourful 🙂

  • I definitely get overwhelmed! And then I can never narrow down my choices so I end up buying a lot more than I need haha. With lipsticks I actually like to try other brands and not really loyal to just one. I haven’t bought a lipstick from Makeup Forever before but I have a red one by MAC, I think it’s called ruby roe.. but haven’t seen the retro one yet! I’m for sure more of a matte girl! Awesome post Ela! Enjoy the rest of ur week:-)

    • It is almost impossible to narrow down the choices when there are over 100 colours, why do companies do that> It is the first MUFE lipstick I tried and I am so happy with the formula and the pigmentation, it is really good.
I hope you have a great week 🙂

  • the shades of this lipstick is pretty! I wonder if I can pull this off 😀

    • When there are so many options, it is almost impossible to pick what you want 🙂

  • I find makeup counters so overwhelming/ pressurized too ;-)I tend to just use red as a lipstain but this is such a pretty colour. Like the sound of the formula too! Not sure where I can find this line in my town… 🙂 xo

    • Makeup companies don’t make it easy for us, when there are so many choices, how can you pick one? 🙂 I got it from Debenhams 🙂 x

It is an insanely beautiful spontaneous purchase if you ask me, hon <3 What a GORGEOUS lipstick and the shade is a hit (no doubt about that). I would love to see it on you! I'm sure it looks beautiful on. I have reviewed Artist Rouge Lip Palette & have really been loving the quality and the formula. Very tempted to go for a bullet lippy in a different shade range. I do feel so overwhelmed with the number of shades though!!! You pointed it out very well, sweetie!!
