Have you ever thought why love is associated with red? Passion, love, anger all these feelings are related to red. When it is Valentine’s Day, you don’t see blue or yellow hearts around, but red. Everything is red, but why? All I could think is red increases the heart rate like love does, so maybe that’s the reason for it. What do you think? So, let’s show our love and passion on Valentine’s Day with red lips! I think I’ve found the Perfect Valentine’s Day Lips with MAC Ruby Woo…

I am not a big fan of Valentine’s Day to be honest. The main reason is that you don’t need just one day to express your love for the other half. I think love should be expressed whenever you feel like expressing it, not only on Valentine’s Day. I hope I am not the only one thinking that way. However, since Valentine’s Day is a few days away, even though you might not be celebrating it, you might want to spice things up with red lips.

MAC Ruby Woo is the perfect red, which is not too warm and not too cool, vibrant red with a perfect amount of blue undertone. If you are not into eye catching bright warm reds, then you will love MAC Ruby Woo.

MAC Ruby Woo

It is a matte, extremely matte lipstick, it is different than any other matte lipsticks that I’ve tried like NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream. Since it is really matte, you don’t really need to apply lip liner, it will not get messy when you wear it. If you have dry lips, before you wear MAC Ruby Woo, or any MAC Retro Matte Lipsticks, you should make sure that your lips are well moisturised. Most of the time I scrub my lips beforehand, and then apply generous amount of lip balm, so that it won’t look patchy and feel uncomfortable. It is also really long lasting, it won’t budge easily and even after you eat or drink, your lipstick will still be there, which is perfect. Isn’t it?

The perfect way to wear red lips on Valentine’s Day would either be with minimal makeup like liner and mascara or a full smoky eye makeup. Both of these would be perfect, whether you have a casual day or a night out. If you’d like to read more about MAC Ruby Woo you should check out the MACCosmetics website.

I agree with you entirely on the V-Day thing! I’m not a huge fan of it myself… It just seems so overly commercialized! Plus, like you said, we don’t need a dedicated day in a year to celebrate love… x Ruby Woo is definietly on my wishlist and I’ve heard such great things about it. It seems like such a gorgeous, vibrant red – and I sure do love my red lipsticks, haha! <3 Thanks for sharing, darling! Sending lots of love your waaay. x x

    • Ruby woo would look beautiful on you! I don’t really wear red lips but I’m trying to change that. Ruby woo was a great option to start with reds. Valentine’s Day is overly commercialised, totally agree with that. Sending you lots of love, Hun <3 x

  • That is a lovely red lipstick! 🙂

I think Valentine’s day is really big in the US, it’s not so big here in Australia but it is nice to remind the people you love why you love them – hubby and I might celebrate by going to the movies if we can find a babysitter haha!

    • That’s a good way of seeing it. I just don’t like how commercialised it is now.

  • Hi Ela! ♥
I am not a huge fan either of Valentine, but I do find it a great excuse to bring out all the pinks and reds and have fun with theme, I have Russian red from Mac but I regretted not getting Ruby Woo, I think it would look more flathering! Matt is definitely the way to go with red I believe so the NYX one is one I will check out as well !

    beautiful post, as always!

    • Reds and pinks is one of the thing I love about Valentine’s Day, and it is definitely an excuse to get all colourful. Russian red is gorgeous, one of the colours I’d like to get. I’m sure ruby woo would suit you, Josune. x

  • That’s a really pretty red 🙂 and the matte formula makes it even more perfect! I just purchased my perfect red from Kiko and I’m writing a post about it and other Kiko purchases later this evening 🙂
I’m not sure if I’ve ever thought of why red is so strongly related to love. But I have thought, when driving past shopping centers with all the shops and their logos listed on the outside, why so many companies have their logo in red! 😀 it’s a very noticabe colour, that much I know hehe 🙂 and actually my fave too!
Thanks for the lovely post and fab pics lovely <3

    • I’ve seen couple of reds in Kiko, which I like so I can’t wait to see your purchases 🙂 Bold lips suit you, so I’m sure it looks beautiful on you.

  • I love Ruby Woo as I really like the Retro Matte finish! My favorite way to wear it is probably with black liquid liner, which is a timeless classic.

    • That’s how I’ve been wearing it too, minimal makeup and focus on the lips.

  • Athena Politou

Ruby Woo never goes out of style. My perfect red though is Rimmel’s 107 which is darker and a bit more pink toned. Dior’s 999 is warmer but also a staple in my kit. Thank you for the lovely post!

    • 107 is one of my favourite. I’ve been wearing it a lot!

  • I like the way you have looped the red ribbon around this lipstick – and a perfect colour for Valentine’s Day!

  • I’ve never really got the hype of Valentine’s either, we don’t really celebrate since it’s just a day of capitalism (to put it lightly) hahaha! Ruby Woo has got SO MUCH love from bloggahs and youtubers, I wonder how good it actually is… My go-to red is a Chanel one I got myself ages and ages ago and I break it out for any special occasion! 😉

    Cherie x
    say hi at sinonym

    • Totally agree that it’s a day of capitalism! Retro matte ones can be a bit drying, and you really need soft lips before applying it beside that it lasts for hours. Ruby Woo is my only true red lippie:) x

  • I’ve never celebrated VD but like I said before, I think it’s the perfect excuse to play around with makeup and just do everything and anything to perfect that look you’ve always wanted to. I do think though, that red is the perfect shade for basically, all types of occasions, and especially for a date night out. I’ve heard such great things on Ruby Woo! I think it’s the lipstick everyone loves and I’ve yet to try it out, but it’s always at the back of my head.

    Ella Pinto xx

    • VD is definitely a great excuse to get all glammed up, and red is definitely a colour for it.
I don’t really wear red lips, but Ruby Woo made me change my mind about red lipsticks and now I want to try more 🙂 x

  • I agree! Valentine’s day should be everyday! But it is nice to have a day set aside (especially if you’re both busy) in order to appreciate each other. Even if you don’t have a partner or you’re ‘celebrating’ alone, it’s just nice to have a day for you! I love this deep red look!

    • Totally agree with the way you see VD. It is a great excuse to just spend the day with the loved one, or just yourself and spoil yourself.

  • Karina Guimarães Ribeiro

This is one of the most beautiful red lipsticks ever!
I love wear red lips, in any ocasion!

  • I don’t own ruby woo but i have NYX matte lip creame in Amsterdam and that is gorgeous bright red 🙂

    • Nyx lip cream is great, I love the velvety finish and Amsterdam is beautiful:)

  • I am loving this shade for Valentine’s Day. I only bust it out on special occasions, and Valentine’s Day is definitely one.

    • Minimal makeup and red lips is a perfect combination, it’s my favourite:) x

  • I don’t own any Mac lipsticks but this is one that I’ve been wanting to pick up for a long time, I think I might just have too! ❤️

  • Mac’s Ruby Woo is just one of those classics that you will never tire of. Great pictures xx

  • I remember visiting a MAC counter a couple of years ago and one of the associates applied Ruby Woo on my lips. I HATED it even though a few people around me tried to convince me that it looked great. It’s such a beautiful shade and I wanted to love it but I’m so afraid of REDS on myself. I should give it another chance and I feel like Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity. Wonderful post! Xx

  • Nadia

I feel exactly the same way about V.Day hon. While the idea behind is lovely, it’s become way too commercial and then again – why can’t we be romantic every day 🙂
As for Ruby Woo, it is one of my favourite MAC reds apart from Russian Red. It’s such a beautiful shade! Thanks for this fab review and your lovely photography, hon!
Would you wear a red/bold lip often? I seem to do it only on different special occasions / weekends away / romantic dinners out. My daily makeup is quite simple and I defo go for a nude lip but I luuuuuuuv my reds <3
Hope you had a good start of a new week, hon and that people at work wise up and stop causing issues. Hugs & kisses your way!

    • I prefer wearing bold lips during autumn/winter, nudes don’t really suit me. Reds look good on blonde people and I’m sure you rock with it 😉

  • I agree with your reasoning for red being everywhere when it comes to Valentine’s Day Ela! I also agree that having one day to show love for your other half is a little silly. It definitely puts a little bit of pressure on things and creates expectations for those 24 hours lol. But I guess it’s a nice little excuse to have a romantic meal. Also I think that this lipstick is really beautiful. It’s definitely the right occasion to rock a red as bold as this.:D
