Why do people set New Year Resolutions every year and then mostly forget about them a week later? Is it really necessary to set up New Year Resolutions? Why can’t we just focus on New Year Goals instead of having plans like “New Year, new me” and put ourselves under so much pressure?

Let’s make it different this year and let’s have “New Year Goals” instead of “New Year Resolutions”, trust me it will make things easier for you. One thing I’ve learnt about setting goals is having bullet points is what pressures us the most, so this year instead of doing that we should have topic. Also, why do you wait a whole year to evaluate your goals and then get disappointed? Evaluating your results in quarter periods would make things easier and more effective I believe, because you can adjust your goals at an earlier stage.

Ela’s New Year Goals for 2016

Don’t we all take time for granted? We waste it and then regret about it. I want to learn time management, it is something I am really bad at. Having a full time job and also trying to focus on blogging might be exhausting, however, if I can manage to use my time more efficient then it shouldn’t be hard to have time for everything.

If you are unhappy with your job, search for a better one! You don’t want to carry on working in a job you hate and make yourself miserable. Focus on what makes you happy and try to lead your career towards that and don’t waste a second! I work as an engineer in a field I’ve wanted to work, am I happy? I couldn’t be unhappier, however, hopefully soon an action will be taken.

“Exercise more” is probably one of the most set goals, but how many of us actually achieve it? Having junk food, being lazy in front of the tv might sound tempting, but let’s change it this year and let’s do something good for our bodies. Eating more green and at least exercising 2-3 times a week for only 20 minutes can be a good start.

I like to play safe, so if you are like me then you will know how hard it is to try new things, things that you haven’t tried before. Try new things, set yourself free and don’t let anything stop you from doing what you want. You only live once, so live it how you want it to be!

Travelling requires some budget, and it might be really hard if you are tight in budget, butΒ you don’t need so much money to see places. You can take day trips or look for opportunities on Groupon or similar webpages. I want to see new countries and new places, this is one of the things I really want to do.

Blogging is still something new to me, I am still learning and trying to make things better. I don’t want to set up number goals, at least not for now. I want to improve my photography and focus on social media (I still don’t know how to use Twitter properly, shame on me!). I’ve always had passion for photography, however, blog photography is something I feel like I need to improve, especially the creative aspect of it.

These are the New Year Goals I set for myself. I believe they won’t put me under too much stress, but are still worth aiming for. I want to see how I do in 2-3 months time and then I can evaluate my goals and adjust them.

What do you think about setting new year resolutions? Have you got any new year resolutions or goals you want to achieve?

Great 2016 goals! Have a great New Year!

    Fashion Soup

  • Some great all rounder goals that I think we can all apply to our lives! And I hope you can find a job you are happier in, it’s horrible when that happens.

    Sheepishly Shameful blog

    • Thank you so much, I hope the same. It is really horrible to work in a job that I’m not happy.

  • Relax more is the only goal I have.

I am sorry to hear you are unhappy in your job, how come?

Libra, Loca: Beauty, Baby and Backpacking

    • I also need relaxing, have had such a hectic year without holidays.

I’m a mechanical engineer and mostly me work at my job and they don’t really care what I say even tho I have a good point and so on. It is really hard to be a woman in a men dominated environment.

      • Oh yes, I can totally relate to that. It took me four years to prove my worth in my job, and after I got back from maternity leave I had to prove all over again that I was still focused. You have to be better than anyone else to get them to listen for a long time, and whenever someone new enters the scene, they try to pull that whole: “Oh, a woman, how nice. I like your lipstick!”-thing on you. So annoying!

        • It is so frustrating. Women are also good at their jobs too but men always have to do what they do the best and underestimate us. How about now? Do you have any plans about work? You will be off for quite a long time, it would be really hard to get back to the same drama.

          • I was off for one year before and it took only a few weeks to get back. My position is secure, and I keep contact and know I am missed. Returning wouldn’t be hard.
I am not returning there however, because of the move and mostly because I want to be able to spend more time with my children. My job is very stressful, and I work crazy hours. I realized over the summer how much I missed my daughter, and how I almost lost myself trying to balance job, family and the blog. Don’t want to give up my family obviously, but don’t want to give up the blog either, and don’t want to give up work in general, so I need a new job. I have something planned, but it is too early to talk about it yet.

          • Having a newborn and also your daughter will not be easy, trying to have time for both of them but also having time for everything else.
I think you should consider doing blogging full time, I am sure you will be successful and also you’d have more time for your yt channel. You already work like a professional on your blog so why not consider it. My fiancΓ© showed me one article with how bloggers make their money and something called blogger network is on top of the list, it only requires a little registry fee then it leads you towards your goal. He wants me to register it, I haven’t made up my mind yet tho.

          • I ave been putting a lot of work into my blog, but so far the money I make isn’t even enough to cover my expenses for hosting etc throughout the year. I don’t think that blogging/YT full time is a realistic career option when you are living in Germany. I will check out Blogger Network and would love to hear your thoughts on it should you join, but as much as I would love to create at least a part time income from the blog, I don’t think I am in the right place to do so.

          • All we need is a Kickstart. It is like a domino effect, the more views you get, it is most likely that you will be getting more traffic through Google and other places.
No one really tells you the way to get traffic and make income out of it, when they talk about how they make thousands every month but then it drives traffic, which means they earn more and more. I will try to focus on Pinterest to drive traffic too, especially having pinable images with some writing on it like “how to …”, apparently they are good for driving traffic.
You should keep up the hard work you do, I am sure you will get what you deserve sooner or later(hopefully sooner)

          • Thank you, Ela. So far, I get barely any traffic through Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram, even though I have read numerous articles on that topic. Probably a kickstart is what I would need, and I will keep up working towards making money with the blog. I conveniently have another year off with income after the baby is born, so I can safely put my time and effort into blogging and YouTube (aside from the time I need for the children, that is). I wish you all the best for your plans and if I could do anything to support you, please let me know.

          • Oh, but thank you for feeling I would be capable of it. I am not sure if people really enjoy reading my blog some days, so that was a great pick me up this grey and gloomy morning.

  • Great goals. Hope you achieve them all.

  • I’m so sorry you’re unhappy with your job, I definitely know what it means. As I wrote in my last post, in 2015 I quit my job because it was making me miserable. Now I’m only doing a little freelance work, and, although I don’t have the same finacial stability I used to have, I’m happy I made that decision. My 2016 goal is finding a job I like!

    • Freelance job is better than not having a job, I hope you manage to find a job that you’d really like. I was planning to quit before the wedding however it’s postponed so I need to stay there for a little longer.

  • I don’t set new years resolutions! I’m not a big ‘planner’ at all! I definitely want to be better at managing time as well! And what I want to do more of is ‘live in the moment’ more and appreciate things I have today rather than looking to future (if that makes sense). Your blog photography is amazing by the way!!! Great post πŸ™‚ xx

    • We all make that mistake, we don’t live in the moment and worry about the future which we don’t know if it exists. If we do that, we sure will be happier:) xx

Great goals, honey! I like the one about time: time is so precious yet it feels as if there’s always a shortage of it. I also agree on the experimenting and stepping out of your comfort zone. I am trying to do that as well and hoping to push those boundaries even more in new 2016 πŸ™‚ Happy new year, sweetie! It will be an exciting and happy one for you πŸ˜‰

  • Kay (shoesandglitter)

I can really relate to so many of your goals… Particularly the work-related ones! My current job makes me quite miserable, also, and whilst I do appreciate it (a job is a job, right?) it does make me unhappy and really brings me down, at times. This is one of the reasons why I started blogging – it’s something that makes me feel happy and fulfilled, and gives me more of a purpose. Wishing you all the best in the upcoming year. I know that you can achieve your goals!! <3 <3

    • That’s almost the same reason why I started blogging, at least I can take my mind of stuff that makes me unhappy. I hope we will be able to find jobs that will make us happy πŸ™‚ I wish you all the best and an amazing 2016! xx

  • Love this! I’m also working on my time management, and really trying to be present. XX

    • Good luck with that, I hope I will manage to be good at it!xx

  • I’m working on saving more money and not splurging on makeup all the time. Must say I’ve been doing seriously good and have not bought any unnecessary makeup since months now and I think I might continue being good. I’m also working on being present and not spending too much time online. My little one is almost two so he needs more attention and I’m trying to discipline myself to not check anything blog related all the time.

Reflection of Sanity | StayLean Tea Australia Giveaway

    • I am actually good at saving money, however most of the time when I do shopping I buy useless stuff. It is something I should work on. Your little boy will definitely need more attention and I’m sure you will do a good job.

  • I loved this post. So open and honest πŸ™‚ I’m sad to hear though that you’re not happy with your work. I hope it all turns out well, and by change I think you mean that? πŸ™‚ It’s so important to like what you’re doing, because we spend so much time at work!
Love that bit of experimenting! I’m off for my little adventure in London tomorrow and I’m feeling a little nervous. But that part in your post encouraged me quite a bit, thank you πŸ™‚
Hope you’ve had a good start of the week honey <3

    • I will start looking for new jobs after my wedding, then I will move back to the UK. I hope I will be able to find a job that will make me happy. I hope you’re having a great time in London, I’ve been there quite a few times and still want to visit again:)

  • Ela, this is such a great post and thanks for proposing that we evaluate our goals quarterly; that’s such a wonderful idea and I’m certainly going to try this. It will definitely save some disappointment and frustration, as I would be able to make adjustments and changes sooner rather than later, as you’ve mentioned. I hope you have a wonderful year and I wish you the absolute best in finding the perfect job; I know you’ll find it or perhaps it’ll find you πŸ˜‰

    • Thank you so much, sweetie. I know it is kinda late to say but happy new year and I hope you have an amazing year with full of surprises πŸ™‚ xx

  • Hahaha I totally feel you on the twitter. I have no idea how to use that. I make my blog automatically post to twitter when a post goes up. Otherwise I forget!

    • I am the same:) I would like to join Twitter chats, it would be fun!

  • I’ll teach ya how to use Twitter! You’ll get into the swing of things! I think you’ve done amazingly with your blog and photography! Love coming here for new posts!

    • Thank you so much:) you’re so sweet. I love visiting your blog!

  • These are all wonderful ideas! Of course, exercise more is on my mind and 20 minutes every other day does sound manageable I can admit that! I also liked what you said about looking on groupon for travel deals! I’ve never thought to use them for travel which probably sounds a little silly! This is a great list!:)

    Shannon Sage

    • I’ve only used grupon for other deals but I know some used for travelling and they weren’t disappointed at all.

  • Exercise is almost everyone’s New Years resolutions! Haha, it certainly is mine! I am starting the barre3 challenge by doing online videos 5 times a week for 4 weeks. I definitely want to manage my money as well (I have bills, loans and a wedding to save up for), so I won’t be buying as much makeup for my blog, but that means there’s room for other topics! Have a wonderful 2016! <3

    • Good luck with the challenge and I hope you can manage to do it. I also want to save money too, in a few months I will be having my postponed wedding *fingers crossed*

  • I used to be sooooo scared of trying new things, but now I love it! Even if it’s something you think you can’t do, you’ll never know unless you actually do it. I like having goals over resolutions. Goals sound so much more personal and adjustable than resolutions do.

I didn’t figure twitter out until a little while ago. I use it to keep up with online friends because there’s just so much you can talk about beauty and whatnot, you know? I feel like photography is something that EVERYONE can improve on, even if you’re a professional.

Good luck on your goals!! <3

    • Experimenting new things instead of carrying on with an old safe routine might sound scary but I’m sure we should all do it at least once in our lives. Whenever I set resolutions, I can’t achieve them so this time for a change, I set some goals and hope to achieve them all.
I am still trying to figure out Twitter, hopefully it won’t take so much time. There are so many things to improve with photography and so many things to try, I need to focus on what I want to improve.

Blogging is a lot of work, but so worth it. I feel like I want to start taking care of my skin better, which means getting back on a regular sleep schedule and investing in some quality skincare. Good luck with your goals!

    • Thank you so much, Ela! There’s always thing to improve with photography, so I hope to get better with it. Lack of sleep is not good for body but we all don’t do much about it. I also want to invest in the quality skincare. Have an amazing 2016 <3

  • These are great goals, Ela! It’s so true that we waste our time and then regret it… and that regret is just more time wasted!! I’m hoping to spend my time more effectively in 2016 – but also to give myself more time out too! Happy new year πŸ™‚

  • Its such a good idea to come back to them and re-evaluate them every few months! I feel like that is where 90% of people go wrong with resolutions because they start off so positive but then start forgetting and slipping! I have started using a journal this year and when I get the time I reflect on how I’m doing so far, goals are a continuous thing, you have to keep thinking them through to get anywhere!
